Nail training and education is key to setting you apart from the competition.
When it comes to your maiden journey, think of what skill you want. There are colleges that cover them as a whole or you can use the industry giants to choose individual sections to learn.
Manicure

First and foremost is the manicure. The backbone of all nail treatments. A poor manicure will create a poor gel polish or nail enhancement treatment. A good manicure is worth its own treatment price. It is a skill that involves the science of the nail anatomy, product chemistry knowledge and a solid understanding of what a nail needs.
These trainings will consist of your health and safety protocols. Along with everything nails and hands you would require to navigate the area you want to beautify.
Pedicure
Additionally, adding the pedicure to your repertoire is a lucrative option as not all salons offer this service. Feet are a part of the human anatomy that not everyone is interested in touching. If you do not have an aversion to this body part, do think about learning the skill. There are nail professionals whose entire client list are pedicures.
There are pedicure focused products being produced that are effective and have aligned training such as Footlogix.

Gel polish
Secondly, the gel polish manicure has revolutionised the nail industry as it’s a game changer for the wearer. 14+ days of flawless colour, art, strength and style. The modern-day life was calling out for a product like this to upgrade the original nail polish/lacquer style.
This area of training is plentiful. Choose a college or brand or nail professional, there is training everywhere! I recommend Sweet Squared.
Nail enhancement – Gel
The word gel extension causes all sorts of confusion check out my previous blog to understand in depth what this means. This type of enhancement is to be used as a long-term extension. Because importantly the correct approach would be to have these nails attended to every few weeks to keep you looking fabulous. The product compound, usually made with a file off formula, not soak off with acetone. This harder compound lends itself to longevity.
However, this product is a specialist product and can be very challenging to work with. So, training and an abundance of practice is essential.
Nail enhancement- Powder and Liquid (Acrylic)

One of the most common nail training and education is for the nail enhancement “acrylic nail”. This is one of the original forms of lengthening the nail. There has been bad press for such a product but performed and maintained by a professional trained nail technician you will have zero problems with this form of nail extension.
All brands tend to have a liquid and powder system. Maybe buy some sample systems (smaller sizes brands sell for you to try) see which product feels nice to work with.
BIAB – Builder in a Bottle
The famous BIAB. This acronym reminds me of the 1st days of gel polish, when the buzz word was “shellac” when asking for gel polish. Subsequently, not realising this is a brand name of gel polish not a treatment. The word BIAB is now used in a similar loose manner. BIAB is a gel nail product used for “building” a nail. You then apply your nail outcome of choice. Such as gel polish or nail lacquer.
Importantly, BIAB is extremely versatile and can sometimes fill all the voids of nail training because you can:-
- Use as a base coat for weak nails who want gel polish
- Create a sculpted free edge
- Overlay onto of a glued tip
Excellent options, depending on the brand this product can also be soak off, adding an extra layer of versatility. Essentially this is a product you would wear for an extended period of time with the help of rebalancing and infilling the growth gap.

Additional training
There are a range of additional training that can help your career such as:-

In conclusion, nail training and education is a tool for not just at the beginning of your career and never revisited. Because it must be a continued journey.
